The Maharaja of Singhbhum is the land of the Singh family’ of Porahat. The royal estates contribute about 27% of the Raja of Singhbhum. Now it is mostly a wildlife park. The remaining area is independent now. It is surrounded to the south and west by the dense and deep jungles Saranda-Singhbhum Range, which effectively has created an isolated valley. To the east, it is covered by hills known as the Elephant Corridor. The estates of the king of Saraikela are to the east, the Districts of Ranchi are to the north and west, and Bonai State is south. The boundaries of the Raja of Singhbhum follow the crests of the hill which save for a short distance in the north marked by the Irrigation Canal CKP. The meaning of Singhbhum island of the Singh family. And the meaning ofSinghbhumi is Land of Lions. In Bengali, Singh means lion and Bhum or Bhumishows land. From Sanskrit raja-Putra, Rajput means “son of a king”. They came to prominence in front of the world from the late 6th century AD and play an extremely important role in many regions of central and northern India till the 20th century. Rajput men have been using to have “Singh“ as their last name and Rajput women have been using the last name “Kumari”. But nowadays a lot of Rajput women have Singh in their name. KING is also spelled as Rajah. Maharaja means a “great king”. Raja is often used for the respect of the princely family.


Geographical status of Singhbhum-

As we all know that the Saranda Forest is located in the SinghbhumDistrict and is famous for its sal trees. The name Saranda means in Hindi seven hundred hills’. The forest has spanned around 450 square kilometers. If you see from the mountains the scenery is always too beautiful. The mountains which are located in the west of Porahat form the waterfall which falls south-eastwards into the Souna valley. The beds of all the rivers are scattered with rocks and the banks are generally narrow and covered with huge jungle, where vegetables and tobacco are grown. One of the most famous pool is near the Raja’s palace. Wild elephants, tigers, leopards, bears, sambar, spotted deer, barking deer, four-horned antelope, wild hog, hyenas, and wild dogs can easily see by naked eyes in Singhbhum.

Singhbhum’satmospherehave Milk Hedge, Karaya Gum, Salai, and the Yellow Silk Cotton-tree (CochlospermumGossypium). All of these plants have their own significant medicinal properties. Axlewood, Terminalia, Bauhinia, GarciniaCowa, (Litsaeanitida (Assamese) including the Sabai grass and spear-grass are mostly available here. The plant Asan (Terminaliatomentosa) was firstly known in the 1840s and applied for the rearing of silkworms, at the Royal Silkworm Farm.

History Of Singhbhum

Until the arrival of the Muslim Turks could be called the Rajput period. This Period was said as the Dark Age of India. This period can be known as the age of chivalry. The Rajputs were imperious and were divided into 100 of the dynasty. They were strenuous in Rajasthan and some other main parts of India. Rajputs are one of the great Hindu Kshatriya categories in India. Northern India falled to pieces completely, after the death of Harsha. Under their rule, many little kingdoms came out. It had not yet discovered the origin of Rajputs. Because of out of the reach position, Singhbhum was never seized by the Mughals or the Marathas.

The Singh family of Porahat whom head was famous as the Maharajah of Singhbhum.Once upon a time, the Raja of Singhbhum possessed also the country. But nowadays it is included in the States of Saraikela and Kharsawan. The relations between the British government with the Raja of Singhbhum came officially in the year 1767. These relations made because of protection for the Resident at Midnapore.

The inauguration of the British Raj did or die point for the Raja of Singhbum. The discharged Raja of Porahat passed at Benares in 1890. His states cut into a number of villages which were given to different-different persons who had employed by the British in the Mutiny, were surrendered to Raja of Saraikela. Some of Sighbhum’s territory were re-established in 1895 as a charge-free land to his son Kumar Narpat Singh, who has acquired the title of Raja. The present Porahat territory holds the charge-free tenures of Sonia and Kuisa and the charge-paying tenures of Chamakpur, Goikera, and Banjira.

West Singhbhum or PashchimiSinghbhum is now a district of Jharkhand state in our country India. It came into reality in 16 January 1990. In 1947, it came into a sub-district in Bihar State.

In 2000, it becomes a district in the new Jharkhand State.

Raja of Singhbhum and the royal family had not to face the social publicity and problems of rules which are approached to many other rajahs in India. The Raja of Singhbhum faced a great challenge during adjusting to India’s democratic surroundings. The economic resources have been adopted by the government to spread the wealth among citizens of India.

Economy Of Singhbhum

Singhbhum’seconomyencircles the conventional and traditional village farming, handicrafts, silk products, and tourism, etc.The main agricultural products which were exported: sal, paddy and rice, pulses, oilseeds, stick-lac, iron, Tasar-silk cocoons, hides, and Sabai grass. The main products which import are salt, cotton yarn, piece-goods, tobacco, brass utensils, sugar, kerosene oil, coal, and coke. In all seasons this place is full of crops with a variety of crops and also for the greenery forest and fruits. Singhbhum is also famous for the finest silk which is used to make these stylish hassocks. And this extremely amazing design has helped the silk foot-stool become Singhbhum’s major products to export.

Silk-farming or also known as Sericulture is an important small industry in Singhbhum. Many farmers who are very near to the forests for increment in grow of arjuna (Terminalia arjuna) as inter-crop with chili or capsicum. As we very well know that silkworms have to feed on arjuna leaves. Thus, the farmers slowly-slowly attached to silkworm culture. So the profits are increasing day by day.

The largest silk farm is granted by the Raja’s family and announced in 1845. But nowadays it is not only the single largest business in Singhbhum. It creates a big farm near the river. And the Royal Silk Farm is also a big tourist point to visit. One kind of silk fabric is MOHAIR which is mostly imported in Turkey at a huge amount and it has a big market value in the world market.

The goat industry is also developing in Singhbhum. Goat meat is the most obsessive meat in Singhbhum. Within a huge scope of soft cheeses like Feta, Ricotta, and Halloumi to hard mold cheese, Singhbhum has around 20 kinds of cheeses to tender.

There are more than 36 different wild medicinal plants in Saranda Jungle which are used for the cure of various diseases like, cough and cold, dental problems, etc. Saranda Jungle is one of the largest Sal forests in Asia. It is famous for its numerous wildlife and creature.
